Joint type

Examples of different joint types:

Connection joint: This joint type results from the combination of individual building elements of different materials, e.g. wood construction/concrete foundation, fittings/tiles, plastic windows/masonry.

Construction joint: This joint type arises out of practical reasons and may not impact the statics. Example reinforced concrete elements: The reinforcement runs completely through the structural element – the concrete is poured in sections.

Building separation joint: This joint type is to be found between buildings (terraced houses, etc.). They serve for noise insulation and for separation, e.g. in case of settlement differences.

Expansion joint (movement joint): This joint type is calculated and installed. Expansion joints are designed to avoid that the movement of a structural element causes stress inside itself or an adjacent element.

Wall Joint: This joint type results from the composition of the individual bricks. The joint pattern is influenced by the type of masonry.
