Oxidation
- Oxidation means the chemical combination with oxygen, e.g. combustion, corrosion. The reversal is referred to as reduction, which means here removal of oxygen (deoxidation).
- Oxidation is the loss of electrons; reduction is the gain of electrons.
- Oxidation is the gain of hydrogen; reduction is the loss of hydrogen. When both reactions occur simultaneously, this is termed redox reaction (reduction-oxidation-reaction).
