Cement

Cement is a powdery binder required for the production of concrete, mortar, and screed. Cement hardens by reaction with water, also known as hydration, both in air and under water. There are different types of cements that can be precisely adjusted to the respective requirements by using the corresponding composition and admixtures. The word cement derives from the Latin word caementum ≈ quarry stone. Already about 2000 years ago, the romans used a binder produced from quarry stone for construction (e.g. the Pantheon in Rome).
